How Big Media Gets The Women-in-Biz Beat Wrong

Recently, Sharp Skirts founder Carla Thompson had some harsh words for ForbesWoman on the subject of the intersection of the women-in-business beat and lightweight traditional “women’s interest” stories. She called out a number of recent stories in a post on the Sharp Skirts corporate blog and came to a pretty damning conclusion.

“The ForbesWoman Twitter profile descriptor is ‘a magazine and Web site for career-minded women who mean business.’ So why are they writing about naughty Halloween costumes? Or our breeding and shopping habits? I increasingly feel like I’m reading a copy of Look magazine, circa 1957.”
